Some dogs have a way of making everyone feel like their favorite person, and Kona was one of them. This sweet, nine-year-old chocolate Labrador Retriever had a big heart, an affectionate personality, and a seemingly endless appetite for attention. From the moment we arrived at his home in Oviedo, it was clear just how much love surrounded him.

Jennifer, James, and their daughter Regina had welcomed Kona into their family as a puppy, and nine years later, he still had plenty of that playful puppy spirit. He could go from a burst of zoomies to a relaxing afternoon on the couch, but his favorite place was always wherever his people happened to be.

Kona had some especially endearing ways of showing his affection. He loved rolling onto his back for belly rubs, offering a paw as though he wanted to hold hands, and resting his head in someone’s lap while gazing up at them with those beautiful, soulful eyes. And while he never met a stranger he didn’t like, there was something particularly special about the way he looked at his family.

For this Cherished Companion session, we photographed Kona in the comfort of his own home, surrounded by the people who knew and loved him best. Our goal was to preserve not only his sweet expression and gentle personality, but also the little interactions that made their relationship so meaningful.

Kona has since passed away, making these photographs even more precious. They capture the warmth of his personality, the devotion he shared with Jennifer, James, and Regina, and the love that made him such an important part of their family.

We’re grateful to Kona’s family for trusting us with these memories. He was clearly cherished beyond words, and it was an honor to photograph him.
