Cherished Companion Session | Gainesville Pet Photography

Some dogs leave a lasting mark on your life, and for Chloe, that dog is Dixie, a 12-year-old red Labrador Retriever who has been by her side through some of life’s biggest changes. From college years to building a future with her fiancé, Bryson, Dixie has remained a constant source of love, comfort, and companionship.

We met up at Kanapaha Botanical Gardens in Gainesville for a session focused on celebrating the special bond they share. The gardens provided a beautiful backdrop with winding paths, lush greenery, and plenty of quiet places for Dixie to explore at her own pace.

Like many senior dogs, Dixie wasn’t interested in being the center of attention. She was a little camera shy, but that only added to the authenticity of the session. Rather than rushing from one spot to another, we let her take her time, stopping to admire the scenery and enjoy the experience. Those slower moments often create some of the most meaningful photographs.

It didn’t take long to see why Chloe describes Dixie as loyal, intelligent, and kind. She greeted everyone with her trademark sweetness and moved through the gardens with the gentle confidence of a dog who truly loves life. Whether she was walking beside Chloe and Bryson, relaxing between portraits, or simply taking in the surroundings, her calm and loving personality shined through.

One of the things that makes Dixie especially unique is how gentle she is. She has spent years collecting stuffed animals without destroying them, a perfect reflection of her soft nature. Even now, with a sweet graying face and the wisdom that comes with age, she approaches the world with curiosity, gratitude, and an obvious devotion to her people.

For Chloe, this session was about preserving memories of a dog who helped shape an important chapter of her life. For Chloe and Bryson together, it was about documenting the love they share with a family member who has been there through it all.
