From the moment we stepped onto the grass at Cypress Grove Park in Orlando, Gemma the yellow Labrador Retriever was all wagging tail, bright eyes, and nonstop enthusiasm. Jennifer had warned us ahead of time that Gemma had never met a stranger, and she was absolutely right. Every person, every sound, and every new experience was met with excitement and curiosity.
At just 10 months old, Gemma is still very much in her big puppy era. Whether she’s chasing after a ball, getting excited over a squeaky toy, or soaking up belly rubs and ear scratches, she approaches life with the joyful energy Labs are so loved for.

But underneath all that playful puppy chaos was something especially sweet: the bond she shares with Jennifer.
One of our favorite things to photograph during any session is connection, and Gemma made that easy. The way she looked at Jennifer said everything. Even with plenty of distractions around the park, her attention always found its way back to her mom.

For Jennifer, this session carried extra meaning. After losing her beloved chocolate Lab years ago, she wasn’t sure she would ever be ready to love another dog so deeply again. Gemma unexpectedly found her way into Jennifer’s life at just seven and a half weeks old and helped heal a part of her heart that had been guarded for a very long time.
That love and trust between them showed up in every part of the session, from the playful moments running through the grass to the quieter images where Gemma leaned gently into Jennifer’s side.

Sessions like this are such a wonderful reminder that puppyhood passes quickly. The oversized paws, the endless excitement, the goofy expressions, and the way they look at you when you’re their whole world deserve to be remembered.
If you’d love to capture your own dog’s personality and the connection you share together, we’d love to help create a session that feels relaxed, fun, and true to your pet.
