The seventeenth breed in our dog of the day series is the Collie!
Lassie, perhaps one of the most famous dogs in showbiz history, was a Collie! They are a very loyal and affectionate breed, and they started out as herding dogs in Scotland and England. In the 1860s, Queen Victoria visited the Scottish Highlands and fell in love with them; from that point forward, the Collie has been a favorite amongst dog lovers around the world.
There are two types of Collie: rough and smooth. The beauty pictured here is a Rough Collie. Despite their impressive looking coats, they only need to be brushed weekly!
